M’Cheyne to Fellow Pastors
Dear Sovereign Redeemer and other friends,
The biography of Robert Murray M’Cheyne, Scottish pastor, 1813-1843, by Andrew Bonar, begins with a biography of his life, and then includes many of his letters and some of his sermons.
Here are two gems from letters to fellow pastors:
Of God using adversity and afflictions in our lives to help us make progress:
“Spread the sail when the breeze of adversity blows, and let it drive your vessel onwards on its course.” (pg 280)
Of God preferring Christlikeness to talent in the people through whom He chooses to work:
“It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus.” (pg 282)
Amen and amen!
Your brother,
Jason
